Oval Brooch by Valerie Mead

This is one of my favourite pieces and seems to have stood the test of time, which is why I have chosen it for this special Dazzle.

I lightly texture the silver and hammer in the lines, then I make tiny 9ct rose gold rivet details. I have always used rose gold and silver together- I love the warm contrast of the rose gold against the cooler silver and the round topped rivets give extra texture and interest. The 9ct white gold pin is for strength. I give it a lightly burnished finish so the white of the silver still shows in the textured surface. The only change to the brooch is my recent use of Argentium silver, which stays a crisp white and tarnishes less than sterling silver, but is the same 925 quality. It is hallmarked in Sheffield, where I trained.
