Nightmare: Begone Foul Night by David Hensel

A Nightmare: Begone Foul Night 2021

This was left unfinished in the late 1980's, as was the partially carved boxwood sleeping face. I've always liked to work with found objects and left over fragments.

Putting these together, the brooch became sleep-talking, about dark unwanted dream fragments. The base, the brightly coloured face, the nightmare, the horrid spider in the hair pumping up its ego, an eyelid of GM insects, in dreams we see what we say, tears become a lizard creeping away.

The base is a brooch as well.
