Orange and Turquoise tiny hydrangea disc Earrings by Sue Gregor

These earrings are made using leaves from flowers from a hydrangea called milliflori which grow in my garden. I collect, dry and press the flowers then heat the recycled plastic and press the flowers into the surface. I use them like a stencil to apply the colours (in this case pinks, reds, greens. blues and oranges), which give my floral jewellery a modern feel. The skeleton leaf is then peeled off to reveal the design. This is a method of dying and embossing plastic I developed myself. I call it 'fossilized plastic ' due to the fine details, like fossils, that are captured on the embossed surface.

I choose quite ordinary plants and weeds to create my floral designs. These botanical earrings evoke both a contemporary and a vintage feel. I hope that the wearer will not only enjoy them as jewellery but also review their appreciation of the natural world.
