Dazzle 40 | Kate Wilkinson
Kate’s work has evolved around the playful and repeated use of textures and patterns. Over the years she has worked in a diverse range of materials such as tin plate, feathers, acrylic and currently silver and cork. Always with an emphasis on decorative textures, colour and the use of multiple handmade units she likes giving the non-precious an intrinsic value and working instinctively with the materials at the bench. With a love for the minutiae her work is inspired by a range of subjects including microscopic photography, biological illustration, urban decay, rock structures and intricate historical costume. Statement necklaces and earrings are the pieces she most enjoys making and her work has been used in film and fashion shoots.
Kate studied at Loughborough and the Royal College of Art setting up studio in Limehouse in 1996. She now works in Buckinghamshire and sells her work through galleries and exhibitions. Being a member of both the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Craft Guilds has given her the exciting opportunity to curate several exhibitions and manage a gallery, bringing the visual arts to the local community whilst also enjoying the quiet sanctity of studio life.
Kate Wilkinson first showed with Dazzle in 1997.
