Dazzle Invites | Rhona McCallum
Rhona McCallum is a jewellery designer maker from Glasgow. Inspired by geology, ancient history and our changing landscapes, she creates statement pieces of jewellery in recycled silver and gold that combine rugged, natural textures with bold, sculptural forms.
Hammered and carved lines run through Rhona’s work, accentuated by flashes of gold, referencing geological fractures and lines and layers in stone.
Each element of Rhona’s work is made entirely by hand. She begins each piece by creating unique hammer textured surfaces on sheets of recycled silver and gold. Rhona uses keumboo to highlight some of the hammered lines and details. Keumboo is a traditional Korean gilding technique where a fine layer of gold is fused to the surface of the silver. It creates a striking contrast in colour, particularly when paired with oxidised silver.
Rhona McCallum is showing an exclusive range of jewellery as part of the virtual Dazzle exhibition – Dazzle Invites.
Dazzle invites 30 contemporary jewellers, showing unique, one-off or limited edition designs, created specially for the exhibition. All pieces are available to purchase from 17 November – 10 January.
