Dazzle Invites | Stephanie Johnson
The joy of making things by hand and a sense of bringing materials to life is what Stephanie loves about jewellery making. She works intuitively and in response to exquisite textures and forms in nature, creating art to be worn and enjoyed.
The innovative use of materials by contemporary Japanese textile artists, continue to inspire and inform her work. Stephanie is a specialist in silver and gold. Both are wonderfully ductile and can be melted, fused, rolled, compressed and drawn out. She works experimentally exploiting these properties. A design grows out of the material and evolves through the making process. The outcome is essentially abstract.
Stephanie aspires to create jewellery that is sensuous and tactile with strong forms that celebrate the beauty and unique qualities inherent in the materials. Each item of jewellery has been designed and crafted in an artisan workshop using traditional hand-tools and processes.
Fine quality materials have been carefully selected to support responsible mining. These include FAIRTRADE gold and Eco silver. This is distinctive hand-made jewellery designed to last and created with a conscience.
Stephanie Johnson is showing an exclusive range of jewellery as part of the virtual Dazzle exhibition – Dazzle Invites.
Dazzle invites 30 contemporary jewellers, showing unique, one-off or limited edition designs, created specially for the exhibition. All pieces are available to purchase from 17 November – 10 January.
