Holding onto hope Brooch or pendant by Becky Crow

These brooches were designed during the lockdown at the beginning of 2021. They were made in reflection and response to the pandemic and all that is has held. They encompass ideas about loss, grief, and separation as well as hope and freedom. Whilst they were made as a specific response to the 2020-21 global pandemic they hopefully also reflect something more universal about our human experience.

Holding onto hope is a piece that endeavours to expresses something of hope, that even in the depths of darkness and isolation we have the capacity to imagine, hope and pull ourselves towards a brighter place. The words below by John O’Donohue have become an appropriate accompaniment to this piece:

"Somewhere, out at the edges, the night is turning and the waves of darkness
Begin to brighten the shore of dawn.
The heavy dark falls back to earth
And the freed air goes wild with light,
The heart fills with fresh, bright breath
And thoughts stir to give birth to colour."

Becky Crow is showing an exclusive range of jewellery as part of the second edition of our virtual Dazzle exhibition – Dazzle Invites.
