Handmade jewellery featuring old found postcards and vintage wooden rulers

Dazzle Invites | Clare Hillerby

Gathering old postcards, usually around 100 years old, all featuring handwriting is Clare’s starting point. The handwriting is unique and full of character, telling stories of everyday lives. Sections are extracted and combined with new handmade metalwork. The metalwork elements are made from silver, usually oxidised to give a depth of colour and allow the papers to become the highlight. Gold tube rivets help to construct each piece and reflect our industrial heritage. Old and new are combined and contemporary stories emerge. As well as old postcards Clare also collects old stamps and maps to include in her jewellery, and also old boxwood engineer’s rulers to combine another layer of storytelling.

Clare Hillerby is showing an exclusive range of jewellery as part of the second edition of our virtual Dazzle exhibition – Dazzle Invites.

Dazzle invites 30 contemporary jewellers, showing unique, one-off or limited edition designs, created specially for the exhibition. All pieces are available to purchase from 16 November 2021 – 9 January 2022.
