Colourful jewellery handmade from polyester resin

Dazzle Invites | Kathie Murphy

Kathie Murphy began making jewellery at evening classes aged 14 with Jonathan Swan in Lewes. Following a degree at Middlesex Polytechnic and a postgrad at Glasgow School of Art in Contemporary Jewellery she set up her studio in 1992. Murphy specialises in making jewellery from Polyester resin and in 2001 had a book published with A&C Black called Resin Jewellery, this was followed in 2009 by Design and Make Non-precious jewellery with the same publishers. They are both still in print. Murphy continues her colourful work in resin with the emphasis on Plastic being precious, creating unique pieces in resin.

Kathie first showed at a London Dazzle at the National Theatre in 1990. For 10 years she also assisted Dazzle exhibitions around the country and was manager of their Christmas exhibition at the National Theatre, London for many years and continues to exhibit with them.

Her work is in the collection of International jewellery at the Middlesborough Institute of Modern Art, Aberdeen City Art Gallery and National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh. She has taught Resin jewellery courses at West Dean College, West Sussex, City Lit London and Morley College London.

Kathie Murphy is showing an exclusive range of jewellery as part of the second edition of our virtual Dazzle exhibition – Dazzle Invites.

Dazzle invites 30 contemporary jewellers, showing unique, one-off or limited edition designs, created specially for the exhibition. All pieces are available to purchase from 16 November 2021 – 9 January 2022.
